In this post I will show you how to set up Google Webmaster Tools and how to submit a sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools. For creating an account on Google Webmaster Tools you need to have a gmail account and you need to have installed Google Analytics on your site before.

Google Webmaster Tools will help you get insight into your website and improve your website and rankings.
Create Your Account on Webmaster Tools
Search on Google “Webmaster Tools”. Log in through your gmail account.
Then add your website, not the www. part, only the domain.com. Click Add a property, as shown in the picture below.
After you click that, a table which asks you to the verify the ownership the ownership of your website. You will verify it using Google Analytics.
So choose Alternative Methods and select Google Analytics.
Then click Verify.
Access Your Account: A First Glance at Google Webmaster Tools
With your Google Webmaster account you can determine search traffic, links to your site, manual actions etc. You can determine Google indexing (the number of pages that you got indexed.
If you click on Crawl, you can crawl errors and stats that could be preventing your pages from indexing. And when you fix something you can fetch it.
If it’s a new account there’s not much data to look for now. However, the information from Google Webmaster Tools is going to be very important for you.
How to Submit a Sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools
This requires the addition of a plugin.
Install “Google XML Sitemaps”
XML is a universal programming language and “Google XML Sitemaps” is the name of the plugin that you need to install. For this, go to Plugins and select Add new.
Search for “Google XML Sitemaps” (the word “sitemaps” is in plural). Click Install.
Then click Activate.
Setting up your Sitemap
Go to Settings and then select XML-Sitemap.
At the top of the page that opens there is the URL of your sitemap which you will submit to your Google Webmaster Tools account. Every time that you will update your site that URL will be updated.
You are going to leave this page as it is and not change any of its details except in the section Change frequencies, you can the frequency when your posts are going to be crawled by Google to Daily (if you plan to post daily) or weekly (if you plan to post a couple of times in a week).
Scroll down and click Update Options.
How to add URL to Webmaster Tools
Go to your Webmaster Tools account and click Crawl and Sitemap.
Click on Add/Test Sitemap which is in the upper right corner of the page.
Go to the Dashboard of your website and copy the last part of the sitemap’s URL and paste it your Webmaster Tools account in the table that opens when you click Add/Test Sitemap. Click Submit and refresh the page.
When you add your site’s sitemap on your Google Webmaster Tools account, it will lead to better rankings for your posts and pages.
